Staff Sgt. Elwin Blaney, son of Mrs. Bernice Blaney and the late William Blaney, was killed in action on July 2 on Rendova Island, the US Allies' major base for PT boats in the South Pacific.

Sgt. Blaney graduated from Windsor High School in 1937. He was a member of the Young People's organization at the Baptist church. In December, 1941 he and Louise Olive Edwards were married at the Baptist Church in Windsor, Vermont.

After serving with Co. G, Vermont National Guard for three years, he was inducted into Federal service on February 24, 1941 and was stationed at Camp Blanding, Florida.
Besides his wife, he was survived by his mother and three brothers, Alson, Ivan, Alan, and Corp. Alton Blaney who was serving in Australia at the time of Elwin's death.
