CRAIN, Helen Strowd Age 85. Died in Nashville on February 20, 2013 after a short illness. Born in Nashville, TN on January 8, 1928. Mrs. Crain was preceded in death by her mother, Lorraine Spencer Strowd; her father, Dr. Wallace Headen Strowd; her brother, William Spencer Strowd; her son, John Thomas "Tommy" Crain, Jr.; her granddaughter, Ella Helen Crain; her most faithful friend, Joe Parker. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, John Thomas Crain; her children, Sherry (James) Arledge and Billy (Sandy) Crain; her daughter-in-law, Melissa Crain; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren. Mrs. Crain attended Ward Belmont and Vanderbilt University where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and later served as President of the Kappa Alpha Theta Nashville Alumnae Chapter. Mrs. Crain was a true Tennessee volunteer and spent countless hours working for Nashville Public Television (WNPT), chairing their Action Auctions for many years, volunteering her time at Central State Hospital teaching dance to the residents and was a volunteer with several other organizations. She was a longtime member of St. George's Episcopal Church and served as Director of Religious Education and Secretary to the Rector. Mrs. Crain was a member of The Belle Meade Country Club and The Garden Club of Nashville and spent many hours working in her spectacular rose and wildflower gardens on Deer Park Circle. The family would like to thank with sincere gratitude her long-time caregivers, George Walker and Mary Groves. Memorials may be made to St. George's Episcopal Church in Nashville, TN; Alive Hospice of Nashville; Food For The Poor; or the charity of your choice . The service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at St. George's Episcopal Church, 4715 Harding Road, Nashville, TN 37205. A private burial for the family will follow.
