Obituary

Joseph McManus of the Mainlands in Pinellas Park, Unit 1 was born in Chicago on September 6, 1932 to Joseph and Mary Anne McManus, immigrants from Ireland.
After his Mother passed in 1937 he was taken to Maryville Academy in Des Plaines, Illinois to live and be raised by the Catholic Church until he graduated from high school in 1950. After high school he was employed by Corey Coffee Company and in construction until he was drafted into the US Army and sent to Korea for two years, after which he returned to Chicago to finish his college education at DePaul University. He then joined the Chicago police department and spent the next thirty years as a police officer, retiring in 1992 with the rank of Sergeant and settling in the Mainlands, first in Unit 4 where he spent ten years, then moving to Unit 1 for the next 11 years to be close to the golf course where he spent so much of his time. His passion was golf and sports of all kinds, cruising, dancing and participating in Mainlands activities in all units, especially 1, 2 and 3.
Joe was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Unit 1 Men's Club, several golf leagues, Elks Lodge 2217 of Pinellas Park, the American Legion among other memberships.
Joe is survived by his wife, Sally of Pinellas Park and Mary Anne Flanagan of Chicago.
