Married Matilda Ann Bethell on May 30, 1878, in Mt. Erie, Wayne County, IL (Marriage Book A, Wayne Co., IL).

Three of John's grandchildren said their grandfather died at his son's , William Bluford Cazadd's home. While there should be a Missouri death certificate on him, one was not filed. Two of the grandchildren said a home-made casket was made and John was taken by truck to the cemetery for burial. Since he was not laid out in a funeral home, it assumed that's why a death certificate was not filed.
