Lemuel Newton Thornbrugh was born about 1838 in Arkansas, the son of William and Sarah (Evans) Thornbrugh. The family moved often - Madison County, Illinois in 1840, Greene County, Illinois in 1850, Franklin County, Kansas in 1860, Bates County, Missouri in 1870, Osage County, Kansas in 1880.

In 1859 Lemuel married Mary Jane Collett in Franklin County, Kansas, and they had seven children: Sarah (md. Legrand Kincaid), William Henry, Charles Clement, Enoch, Lemuel J., Lauretta and Arthur Quincy.

On September 12, 1886 (after the death of Mary Jane in 1882) Lemuel married Julia Ann Blake, the former wife of Benjamin Hasty.

Sometime and somewhere, probably during the years 1886-1895, in the Franklin County-Osage County (Kansas) area, Lemuel died. One assumes that Lemuel died prior to the Kansas state census of 1895, when three of his sons are living together without a parent: Charles age 26, Lemuel age 22, and Arthur age 14. Osage county probate records are indexed but do not indicate a probate file for Lemuel. As there was at least one minor child (Arthur Quincy) in 1895, there should have been some adjudication with regard to guardianship if he did die prior to 1895.

Attached are reconstructed records of Eastview Cemetery created by Barbara Driver in 1983. The lot certificate register and lot owners map both indicate the burial of "L. N. Thornbrogh" in lot #57.
