Served in the Union Army in the Civil War as Sgt. in Co. K, 9th Tennessee Cavalry.

Arthur married (1) Anna Dillard 5 Aug 1865 Marion County, IN; (2) Almira/Alyrma Howard 17 May 1871 Decatur County, IN; (3) Mary Louise Bell 25 Nov 1886 Rush, Rushville, IN. There a no known children with Anna. Arthur and Almira had sons Howard and Walter Bruce (1874-1928) burial location unknown). By Mary Louise Bell, he had George, Florence and Russell.

Arthur was the s/o Absolom Chenoweth and Sarah Martha Cox. The whereabouts of Absolom's grave is unknown, but would be in Knox Co., TN where Absolom married and lived. Absolom was the s/o Richard Chenoweth who migrated with Ellen Hammer, his paramour at the time, to Knox County, and of their 7 children, Absolom was the youngest and one of two to have been born after Richard finally obtained his divorce from his Baltimore wife Eleanor Askew and was able to marry his consort Ellen.

Absolom and Sarah had 7 children, 6 known to have married. Besides Arthur they were: Cassander Caroline McCowan, Loretta Alice Weaver, Malinda Ellen Duckworth, Olivia Orlena Mclain, William Bruce and Margaret.
