Algie Mae Cagle Shetley, 87, died Saturday, May 8, 1999, in a local health care facility. A native of Madison County, she was the daughter of the late George and Alice McGaha Cagle. She was the wife of the late Burnette Shetley, who passed away in 1990. She is survived by her daughters, Evelyn Collins of Mars Hill, Peggy Sexton of Greenville, TN, Georgia Williams of Asheville, Barbara Sexton of Greeneville; sons, Roy Shetley of Newport, TN, Rev. Clifford Shetley of Marshall, Rev. JB Shetley of Alexander, Plato Shetley of Leicester, Walter Shetley of Greeneville, Charlie Shetley of Asheville, Paul Plemmons JR. of Greenville; 28 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren. Services were held Monday, May 10 in the chapel of Madison Funeral Home. The Revs. Tommy Melton and Ralph Roberts officiated. Burial in the Bowman-Rector Cemetery followed the funeral. Grandsons served as pallbearers and Dr. William Hamilton was honorary pallbearer. Memorial may be made to Hospice of Madison County, PO Box 909, Mars Hill, NC 28754.
