OBITUARIES
ANDREW J. BEER

Andrew J. Beer was born 2-1/2 miles east of Keosauqua, Van Buren county, Iowa, January 18, 1857, and died at his home in Vernon township, this county, February 20, 1913, aged 56 years, 1 month and 2 days, his parents being John and Mary Beer. This county was always his home, and on Sept. 14, 1880, Miss Emma G. Stevens became his wife. To them were born five children, Mrs. Minnie Aylor and Mrs. Retta Brewster, residing near Keosauqua, and Ora, Willis and Kenneth, the last three being at home. Two brothers, Samuel and Benj. Beer, and a half brother James Fickey, all of this county, survive. A half brother Wm. Fickey, preceded him to the world beyond. Measles, followed by pneumonia, caused his death. Andrew Beer was a good man, good in the full sense of that word. He was a loving and dutiful husband of the wife and mother who died Feb. 7, 1902. Since then a double duty as a parent rested upon him, for he kept his children with him and cared for them with a devotedness that can come only from a loving father who carried with him the realization of his additional responsability [sic] as the surviving parent. His neighbors and acquaintances were all his friends, and they deeply mourn with the afflicted children and other relatives in their bereavement. The funeral was held at Center Chapel at 2 p. m. Sunday, Feb. 23, services in charge of Rev. Fowler, his pastor. Burial was in Center Chapel cemetery.
