Leo Thomas Sweeney was married to Ruth DeFee, on 2 Aug 1931, in Texarkana, Miller Co.,Ark. in St Edward's Catholic Church, Texarkana, Ark. They had two son's, one who is also buried here...That is Father Leo Thomas Sweeney Jr...Leo Sr. was a "Top" Insurance Salesman for many years and worked for Central States Insurance and later for Mutual Insurance..Later on he worked for Nelson Printing Company in Texarkana. He was a devout Catholic and never remarried after he and Ruth divorced. Leo was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Edward's Church, Texarkana, Ark. He also was a member of the BPOE, Texarkana Lodge # 399..He was the Commander of this Lodge in 1932..
Two of Leo's brothers are also buried in Calvary Cemetery. He was a very caring and compassionate man, and truly missed.
Leo was the son of Anthony Bernard Sweeney and Mary Ann Sweeney nee Murry..They lived at 406 Beech St, Texarkana, Ark. Anthony was a pioneer of Texarkana, Ark. and is believed to have come to Texarkana abt. 1882-83.(Note Bio on his grave). He and his wife are buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery, over on the Texas side of town....Also buried there is Mrs. Sweeney's father, Owen Eugene Murry.
