Balzona was a sergeant in the 222nd Infantry Regiment, 42nd Infantry Division, and fought in Central Europe. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Theatre Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one bronze battle star, and the World War II Victory Medal. Balzona was married to Mary Elia. He was a member of Holy Saviour Church in Norristown and The L.A.M. Valley Forge 1776 Lodge of the O.S.I.A.
