Helen was born on March 18, 1917, in the Town of Lima, the daughter of the late Abram and Jennie (Brusse) Dulmes. She graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School in 1934.
On June 3, 1938, Helen married the Melvin H. Oonk in Sheboygan Falls. He preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 2000.
Helen worked as a secretary at the Oostburg Middle School for 21 years before her retirement in 1981. She also had worked at the Oostburg Canning Factory for several years.
Helen was a devoted member of the First Reformed Church in Oostburg, where she participated in the Women’s Mission Circle, Young At Heart, and the Neighborhood Bible Study. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed card playing, traveling with her husband, and spending time with her family.
Helen is survived by one daughter, Nancy (Dick) Doeden of Holland, Mich.; two sons, Fred (Alice) Oonk of Midland, Mich. and Rodney (Barbara) Oonk of Boulder, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Kurt (Heather) Doeden, Rick (Amy) Doeden, Deborah (Tim) DuMez, Heather Oonk, Matthew (Angie) Oonk, Ryan Oonk, and David Oonk; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Viola (Kenneth) Meyer of Cedar Grove, Marjorie (Kenneth) Popp of Sheboygan Falls, and Doris (Alan) Smith of Stafford, Va.; two brothers, Lloyd (Mary) Dulmes of Auburn, Calif., and Ronald (Mary) Dulmes of Oostburg; and two sisters-in-law Eunice Bruggink of Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls and Margaret (Ronald) Bimmel of Sheboygan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and one sister, Mildred Kaland.
