John Carroll Rivers, 60, beloved husband of Jomarie Bigg Rivers, died Thursday, April 25, 2013 at his residence.
A native of Ridgeland, SC, John was a son of the late John David and Jenelle Brannon Rivers.
He grew up in Jasper County, SC and graduated from Ridgeland High School. John graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1974 with a BS in Engineering. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army, and was stationed in Germany rising to the rank of Captain. He moved to Aiken 23 years ago and worked in the Tritium Facilities at Savannah River Site. John was a member of the Savannah River Rifle and Piston Club, West Point Leadership Award Program for Aiken County Schools, and was a volunteer with the Cumbee Center to Assist Abused Persons. John had just recently completed training and was certified as a volunteer Reserve Deputy with the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Jomarie, include a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Rivers and Lucas Hernandez, Los Angeles, CA; a son and daughter in law, CAPT Jonathan David Rivers, USA, stationed in Afghanistan and Sarah Britain Rivers, Ft. Campbell, KY; two grandchildren, David Britain Rivers and John Mabin Rivers and a brother, Jerry Allen Rivers, Pooler, GA.
Interment will follow in St. Luke's United Methodist Church Cemetery, Bluffton, SC with Military Honors.
