Inscription

JOHN WISHART M.D.
DIED
June 19, 1864:
in His 84th Year.

Dr. Wishart's stated age at death is based on the old Church-style method used throughout North America prior to the early 1800s, and likely requested to be used by his youngest son, Rev. Marcus Wishart. His gravestone says on the day he died he was then 83 years old, and Ætatis suæ (i.e., Æ, "Aged," in the XX year of his Age) 84.
