Mrs. Eliza Irvin Curtin died at her home on the corner of Allegheny and Howard Streets on Sunday morning May 12, 1897. She was 82. She was the widow of Roland Curtin, one of the old-time iron men. Burial was Tuesday afternoon in the Union She was the daughter of John Irvin, of Linden Hall, who at the time of his death in 1843 was the second largest landowner in Penns Valley and one of the most prominent men of the country. Of a large family of sisters and brothers she is the last with the exception of Mrs. Sarah Potter, wife of the late Capt. W. Wilson Potter, of this place.
She was born at the Irvin home at Centre Hall on the 6th of October 1814 and is said to have been a beautiful woman in her younger days. On the 17th of June 1834, she was married to Roland Curtin, eldest son of the head of the Pennsylvania family of Curtins.
Her husband died in 1875 and since, two sons, Will and Roland. Surviving her are Col. Austin Curtin, superintendent of the Orphan's school at Chester Springs, Pa. Andrew G. Curtin of Philadelphia, and Gen. I. Curtin and James C. of this place. Centre Democrat, May 14, 1897
