PETER TERKELSON

Peter Terkelson, 81, of route 4, Manitowoc, lifelong resident of the county, and father of Mrs. Gretna Brown, county superintendent of schools, died Sunday morning at the Holy Family hospital following a lingering illness.

He was one of the last surviving members of the T. Terkelson family, which settled in Manitowoc Rapids in 1850.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Gjerpen Lutheran church, the Rev. N. A. Berntson officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

He was born in Manitowoc Rapids in 1868 and when a young man was employed in lumber camps in northern Wisconsin.

In 1908 he married Miss Katherine Osmunson. They located on the homestead farm. Mrs. Terkelson died in 1911.

He served several years as town clerk and was treasurer of the Hillside school district in Manitowoc Rapids for 19 years. At one time he was secretary of the Rapids and Western Telephone company and secretary of the Scandinavian Mutual Insurance company of Manitowoc.

Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Brown, and a niece, Mrs. Morris Goehring, of route 4, Manitowoc.

Six brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.

Friends may call at the Urbanek and Schlei funeral home. The casket will be moved to the church at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
