Walter's biological father was Lewis Levi Pysher who was listed on a Forks Lutheran Church baptism record. He was raised by his stepfather, Gerald P. LaBar .

Walter L. Pysher, age 84, formerly of Ackermanville, PA, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2009 in Easton Hospital, Wilson Borough, PA. Born January 24, 1925 in Easton, PA, he was the son of the late Gerald P. and Mabel Kessler LaBar. His wife, the former Velma A. Itterly, died in 2004. Walter served in the United States Army during World War II. He was employed as a construction worker for Alvin H. Butz, Inc. where he retired. Earlier in life he was employed by E. C. Machin Construction Co. Walter enjoyed hunting with his son in earlier years. He enjoyed working outside on his home and garden, and loved being with his grandchildren.
He was a member of Ackermanville United Methodist Church and the Slate Belt Senior Center. Walter is survived by three daughters, Linda Yetter and her husband Jack of Pen Argyl, PA, Ruth Ann Fegley and her husband Roy of Wickenburg, AZ, and Christine Speer and her husband David of Bangor, PA; two brothers, Robert LaBar and his wife Barbara of New Britain, PA, and Kermit LaBar and his wife Barbara of Bangor; one sister-in-law, Dorothy LaBar of Plainfield Twp., PA; his companion, Irene Itterly of Plainfield Twp.; three grandchildren, Allen Yetter and his wife Debbie of Port Jefferson Station, NY, Jennifer Speer, and Rochelle Speer, both of Bangor; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald J. "Boo" Pysher who died serving his country in Vietnam in 1966; and one brother, Delbert LaBar.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Schmidt Funeral Home, P.C., 202 West St., Wind Gap, with the Rev. Gil Clark officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call Thursday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until time of service in the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Wind Gap Cemetery. For those who wish to honor Walter's memory, donations may be made to the Ackermanville United Methodist Church, 1410 Ackermanville Rd., Bangor, PA 18013.
