Born April 20, 1970, in Kittanning, he was a son of Daryl E. and Roxanne (Swartz) Shay, who survive him.
A veteran of the United States Army, he served in the military police during Operation Desert Storm. Donald was a self-employed carpenter, and a member of the Buffalo EMS, for which he was an EMT and a wheelchair van driver. He was a member of the East Brady American Legion, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and playing with his boxer, "Taz." He loved his children and grandchildren.
Donald formerly attended Salem Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Lisa (Sweitzer) Shay; his children, Donald Shay Jr., of Ford City, Robyn (Tony) Green of Ford City, and Kurtis Shay of Leechburg; two stepsons, Steven Repak of Washinton, PA, and Samuel Repak of Ford City; two brothers, Cody Shay of Pittsburgh, and Cory Shay of Carnegie; and three grandchildren, Angela Snyder of Leechburg, Logan Green of Ford City, and Wyatt Green of Ford City. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Christine Swartz of Kittanning.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Donald Swartz; paternal grandfather, William Shay; paternal grandmother, Helen (Bond) Shay; and a stepdaughter, Karissa Snyder.
Friends will be welcomed from 7 to 9 p.m., on Tuesday, April 30, and from 12 to 9 p.m., on Wednesday, May 1, in the WELCH FUNERAL HOME, 1032 Fourth Avenue, Ford City. Additional visitation from 10 a.m., until the time of services at 12 noon, on Thursday, May 2, in Salem Baptist Church, with Mr. Edward Walters officiating. Interment will follow in Slate Lick Cemetery, with military honors provided by Armstrong County Honor Guard.
