Dr. John Clifton Anthony, 88, retired Birmingham, Ala., physician and Giles (County Tennessee) native, died Monday night, May 2, 1966 in Birmingham University Hospital.
Funeral rites took place on Wednesday in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church with the burial in Elmwood Cemetery, with vestrymen as the pall bearers.
Born August 16, 1877, in Giles County, he was the son of the late William Wilkes Anthony and Emma C. Anthony Anthony. He was graduated from the old Birmingham Medical College in 1909, and served as superintendent of the old Hillman Hospital, 1909 and 1910. He retired a few years ago. He was a member of the Jefferson County Medical Society, the Alabama Medical Society and the American Medical Society. He was a member of the Episcopal Church.
Dr. Anthony is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Smith Anthony; one daughter, Mrs. Mary McKimmin Anthony (Ernest S.) Strong, Birmingham, Ala.; one son, John C. Anthony, Jr., Marietta, Ga.; and five grandchildren.
