SPRINGFIELD - George "Max" Claytor, 89, of Springfield died Friday, May 13, 2005, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village.

He was born Oct. 24, 1915, in Alma, the son of Joseph True and Emma C. Ross Claytor. He married Eileen B. Holsapple in 1937 in Vincennes, Ind. His daughter, Judy, preceded him in death.

Mr. Claytor began working as an operator-agent for the Illinois Central Railroad in 1937 and retired as an agent for the railroad in Olney in 1978. He was a member of West Side Christian Church, where he was a member of Beauknots Sunday school class; Edgewood Lodge 484; Potomac Lodge 782 AF&AM, serving as master in 1949; Farina Lodge 601 AF&AM, serving as master in 1959; Olney Lodge 140 AF&AM; Danville Consistory; and Anid Shrine Temple.

Survivors: wife, Eileen; son, James M. (wife, Jane) Claytor of Springfield; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday, Bisch Funeral Home West. Graveside services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Peaceful Valley Cemetery, Odin, the Rev. Vaughn Beeman officiating.
