He was born July 13, 1934 at Swain, Arkansas the son of Tommy and Ethel Young. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Henry; his sister, May; and a nephew, Hartzel.
A Baptist, Olen studied the Bible. His favorite verse was John 3:16.
Olen is survived by his wife of 55 years, Grace Young of the home; their children, Pamela, Gary and wife, Lisa, Joan and husband, Shawn; three grandsons; two great-granddaughters; three nieces; and a nephew. Nieces, Lovene and Ruby Fay were as close and dear to his heart as his own daughters.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1961. Olen and Grace moved back to Swain, Arkansas when he retired from Metro Park Distribution Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Olen enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and they have fond memories of camping trips. He also played guitar in several bands, one of which was with his son and youngest daughter, frequently playing at nursing home and at family events.
Olen was giving and caring, his kindness shared not only with his immediate family but to his extended family, his friends, co-workers and to members of his community.
Burial will follow in Swain Cemetery with pallbearers being Wyman Simmons, Berl Dean Simmons, Travis Wood, Joel Keith Wood, Jody Clark, and Doug Pelfrey.
