Her two life's dreams were to be a mother and to teach young children. On March 22, 1947, she married Herbert Hanson and settled into the farm life in Ridgefield, where they raised three children and a herd of dairy cows. Marianne also taught Sunday School at the Evangelical Free Church of Crystal Lake for 75 years and actively served in the church in a variety of capacities throughout her life.
She had an artist's spirit and enjoyed God's creation through photography, sculpture, writing, and painting.
Following Herb's death in 1979, she married Ken Mavis and took his last name. They spent their later years together travelling the united states, until Ken's health deteriorated.
