ABSTRACT Died on December 1, 1911 at the home of her daughter, 821 Obispo Avenue. Age: 72 years. Survived by her children: W.L. Dawes and Mrs. N.H. Capron of Long Beach; Mrs. George B. Larson of Los Angeles; Edwin Dawes, Clarence L. Dawes and Mrs. Stewart Pond of Minneapolis; B.E.Dawes of Des Moines; and L.W. Dawes of Bonne, Iowa. Interment at Sunnyside Cemetery.

Minerva was the daughter of Sarah Lawrence Sweet and E. Sweet, both born in New York in the early 1800s. Together they had five children, before Mr. Sweet passed away at a young age (before 1850). Their children were: LEROY, born abt. 1835/36, DELOSS, born abt. 1838, MINERVA (1/15/1840-12/1/1911), DEVILLO (9/21/1841-4/8/1903), MENZO, born in 1843 (died during the Civil War, 6/7/1863, Co. A, 9th Iowa Infantry Reg., Vicksburg, Mississippi).
Minerva lived with her widowed mother and brothers in Girard (Erie), Pennsylvania in the 1850s. Her mother was a farmer. By 1860, Minerva had married, and with her husband, Charles Mark DAWES (4/2/1834-12/12/1904), was making a home in Monmouth, Iowa, on a farm. Twenty years later, Minerva and Charles had moved to Boone, Iowa, where Charles was a traveling grocer, and they raised their children there. They had had eight children by 1883 (*one infant daughter had passed away): WILBUR L., ESTELLA M., LESLIE W., ADDIE*, BURTIS E., EDWIN MINOT, CLARENCE L., EFFIE V., & MABEL M. DAWES.
Minerva's mother, Sarah Sweet, lived with her daughter & husband for a time in Iowa until her passing in abt. 1875.
Charles continued in the grocer business, joined by his young sons, Wilbur & Leslie, in the early 1800s. By 1900, Charles was in Minneapolis, MN, working for a baking co., manufacturing extracts.
After Charles passed away, Dec. 1904, Minerva moved to Obispo Ave., Long Beach, CA, to live with her eldest daughter, Estella, & her husband, Nelson Hamlin "N.H." Capron, and her grandsons, Benjamin F. and Jean-Leon. Minerva lived near the beach several years until her passing in December 1911.
