Juanita married a young French Basque, Juan (Flaco) Aniotzbehere, October 19, 1879, at Monterey, CA. Juan and his brothers had come to California from Snare, France, and settled near the Salinas River in Monterey County, to raise sheep. Juan and Juanita moved to their own ranch near Los Banos, CA. They had seven children; Miguel, Virginia, Juanita, Theresa, Alice, Frank and Charles.

Her son, Miguel was in San Francisco getting supplies and while staying in a local hotel contacted Black Smallpox while sharing a room with a seaman. Miguel became very ill and his father rushed to the hospital in San Francisco. He refused to leave him and he too became ill with the smallpox. They died 16 days apart. Juanita lived only three more years and it is said she died of a broken heart. She is buried in Los Banos.
