Mr. Tazewell was raised in Norfolk and attended Maury High School, Norfolk Academy and Old Dominion University. He later attended the USAF Air University and became a lieutenant colonel. Mr. Tazewell retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1959 and stayed active in communications, electronics and computers. He received the Bronze Star Medal for service in World War II in the China campaign. He was in Shanghai, China, in World War II while the Japanese Army was still there.
Mr. Tazewell is survived by his wife, Theresa H. Tazewell; six children, Lyn Hamilton, Pat Werner, Ann Innes, Will Dawson, Valera Strauser and Sabrina Tazewell; a brother, John P. Tazewell and wife Elizabeth; a sister, Mrs. John Hawkes; six stepchildren; along with many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
