SLACK, Mr. S. G. Funeral services for Mr. S. G. Slack, age 86, of Union City, Ga., will be held at the home at 2:30 o'clock this (Friday) afternoon. Rev. Roy Hulan will officiate and interment in Shadnor cemetery. Mr. Slack is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. H. F. Dewitt, of Elkton, Md.; Mrs. S. W. Smith, of Union City, Ga.: two sons, Mr. W. E. Slack, of Rome, Ga.; Mr. H. L. Slack, of Boston, Ga.; one brother, Mr. J. O. Slack, of Hagersville, Ontario, Canada. Pallbearers to serve are Messers. Aubrey Jeanes, Gaines Barrett, Carlos Jeanes, Earl Estes, Walt Griffin, S. B. Jeanes. Graveside services will be in charge of Union City F. & A. M. Lodge No. 600. (Please omit flowers.) Bishop & Poe.

"S. G. Slack was one of seven brothers born to English parents who immigrated to Canada and settled in Ontario. S. G. moved to Tifton, Georgia in the early 1890's. His brother, Earnest Edward Slack, also moved to Tifton. By 1893 he was a well known and highly revered citizen, builder and contractor. In the Spring of 1893, H. H. Tift, E. P. Bowen and S. G. Slack and others formed a stock company and opened a fruit and vegetable canning plant. They employed 120 people, canned ten thousand cans per day and shipped them around the country. In 1905, he opened a hardware firm with J.J.L. Phillips, A. B. Hollingsworth and his brother, E. E. Slack. Early on he became interested in politics, serving as a city Alderman and on various committees. He was on the committee which voted to light the streets, build the school, map the city, compile a city sanitary code, sell bonds for water works and build the courthouse. In 1907, a volunteer fire department was organized and S. G. Slack was the chief of the department managing two companies of volunteers. Later he moved to Union City where he made his home until his death on Wednesday, October 23, 1940 at the age of 86. He was survived by his widow, and the following children: Mrs. Faust Dewitt, of Elkton, Md.; Mary Bell Slack Smith(Mrs. S. R. Smith) of Union City, Harry Slack of Boston, GA, Willard Slack of Rome and one brother, Jule Slack of Hagersville, Ontario, Canada. One son, Lawrence, who was very popular in Tifton, died in 1931, unmarried.Born in Hagersville, Ontario, Canada to Henry Walton Slack (England) and Mary Ann Gable/Slack (Canada). Married. Occupation was contractor and hardware. Aged 86 years.

Cause of death - cerebral apoplexy. Contributing cause - arterial hypertension.
