Bernise "Bernie" Beatty, age 72, of Blum, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013 in Burleson. He was born November 1, 1940 in Waco, Texas to the late J.C and Ethel Beatty.

He grew up and attended school in Waco, and he later moved to Houston before enlisting into the navy. He served his country until he was honorable discharged. In 1959, at the age of 19, he began driving for a trucking company. He enjoyed a 20 year career as a truck driver and being a volunteer firefighter in Lufkin, Texas from 1971-1975. He then worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator and foreman until health issues forced him to retire. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Blum, Texas, where he was a volunteer firefighter for ten years. He enjoyed barbecuing at rodeo and church functions, collecting marbles, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include: wife, Evelyn Beatty of Blum; one son, Harry Beatty of Trophy Club; two daughters, Kelly A. Maxey of Richland Hills and Michelle M. Hite of Burleson; two brothers, William H. Beatty of Spring and James R. Beatty of Tom Ball; daughter-in-law, Denise C. Beatty; son-in-law John Hite; nine grand children and eight great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 6, 2013 from 6-8 pm. at Cedar Creek Baptist Church near Whitney, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Cedar Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Wade Yarbro officiating. Interment will follow at 3 pm. at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe made to the American Cancer Society, 1311 New Road, Waco TX.
