James Caulley of Springfield, Oregon died April 22 following a stroke. He was 79.

He was born Jan. 15, 1926, in Stoddard County, Mo., to E. M. and Eva Johnson Caulley. He married Zena Vail on May 24, 1946, in San Jose, Calif.

He graduated with a bachelor's degree from San Jose Bible College in 1949. He ministered in California, Washington, Oregon and Puerto Rico.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, gardening and telling stories and jokes. He volunteered in the Senior Companion program in Douglas County and for the Willamalane Senior Center for 10 years.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Martin of Eugene, Sheridan of Springfield, Scott of Tubengen, Germany and Steven of Kimberly, South Africa; a daughter, Joy Grewell of Tacoma; two sisters, Elsie Jarrell of Port Richey, Fla., and Edna Caulley of Dexter, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
