Irene W. Aldredge, 90, died on Friday, May 17, 2013 at Nurse Care of Buckhead from complications from a stroke.

Irene was the daughter of Joel Clifford Wilson Jr. of Atlanta and Irene Thrower Wilson of Atlanta, all deceased. Mrs. Aldredge was the granddaughter of Marvin L. Thrower, famous Atlanta Real Estate Developer, who built many properties in the downtown, West End, and Buckhead area. Mr. Thrower was a devoted Christian and benefactor of the original property of Peachtree Presbyterian Church located at the corner of Peachtree Road and Mathieson Road in 1926. Mrs. Aldredge's grandmother was Dimis B. Thrower, a devoted wife and Christian. Mrs. Aldredge had two siblings Eloise J. Nagle, who has one surviving son, an investment advisor and Marvin L. Thrower Wilson who died in combat in the European Theatre of World War II.

Mrs. Aldredge described her first seven years living in Buckhead off Peachtree at West Shadowlawn Avenue as wonderful, but that all changed October 24, 1929, the day the stock market began crashing losing 90% of its value from 1929 to 1932. During this period, her grandfather, Marvin, and her dad who worked for the Thrower Development Company, lost everything. Mrs. Aldredge always said she would not have eaten during this period if it was not for her best friend, Shirley Fiscus, daughter of Henri Fiscus, world renowned baker, who started what is now called Henri's Bakery in 1929.

Irene, in her mid 20's, married James W. Aldredge, now deceased, a World War II veteran and long time employee of the U. S. Department of Defense. During her marriage, Mrs. Aldredge lived in Philadelphia, PA, Florence, SC, and Macon, GA.

When her health began to deteriorate, Mrs. Aldredge moved to Marietta, GA in February 2012 to live with her nephew, Robert Nagle, and lived there until her death.

During her life, Mrs. Aldredge was an avid news junkie and follower of the financial news network. Mrs. Aldredge believed in buying stock in products she liked, paid a dividend, and sold a product which was addictive in nature. During her retirement years, Mrs. Aldredge loved to travel to various venues on the West Coast, which unlike Macon, GA had very low humidity.

Mrs. Adredge's Funeral is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home located at 180 Church Street, NE. just 3 blocks from the square in Marietta, Ga. A short graveside service will immediately follow at Westview Cemetery located at 1680 Westview Drive, SW, Atlanta, Ga.
