Violet L. Atkinson, age 96, of Portage, died on Friday, November 3, 2000, at her residence.
Violet was born on April 12, 1904, in Caledonia Township in Columbia County, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Kabele) Richmond. On August 2, 1923, she was united in marriage to Floyd J. Atkinson in Pardeeville. Together they farmed in the Springvale and Scott Townships. Floyd preceded her in death on November 15, 1988. Violet Atkinson was a member of the Rosendale Presbyterian church. She was also a member of the Portage Senior Citizens Club, and past member of the Briggsville Senior Citizens. She was an avid Bingo player and also enjoyed playing cards. Most near and dear to her was her family.
She is survived by her loving and devoted children, four sons and their spouses, two daughters and their spouses; 23 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other near relatives and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Donald; her daughter-in-law, Grace; four grandchildren; three sisters; nine brothers; and special family friend, Ann Wagner.
Funeral services for Violet Atkinson will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2000, at 11:00 a.m. at the Smith Funeral Home in Pardeeville. Pastor C. Keith Epps will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pardeeville Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the Smith Funeral Home in Pardeeville on Tuesday morning, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.
