MERIDIAN, Miss. — Verna Ruth Harrison Bynum, 86, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013.

Mrs. Bynum was born in Duffie, Miss., on May 13, 1926. She graduated from Beulah Hubbard High School in 1945 where she was a high school cheerleader and named "Class Prophet."

In April 1945 she married the love of her life Kenneth Donald Bynum of Decatur. Mr. and Mrs. Bynum were married 68 years and were life-long residents of Meridian. The Bynum's were members of Midway Baptist Church.

Mrs. Bynum worked at South Central Bell Telephone Company and Medlin's Fabrics. But, the role she enjoyed the most was wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.

Mrs. Bynum was a faithful and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her mother Fannie Eula Williamson Harrison; her father Marion B. Harrison; her husband Kenneth Donald Bynum; her sons Kenneth Buryl Bynum and James L. "Buddy" Bynum; her sisters Odessa Smith; Gertrude McMahan; Glenda Harrison; her brothers Rudy Harrison; James MacLaurin Harrison; Duvert Harrison; her brother-in-law Jack F. Bynum and her sister-in-law Shirley Bynum. Survivors include her sisters Clarene Little; Elberta Ford and Molly Williams; her granddaughter Sarah Bynum of Memphis, Tenn.; grandson Brandon Bynum of Ellisville, Miss., and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, May 5, at 2 p.m. at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery in Little Rock, Miss. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Midway Baptist Church, 4579 Old 8th Street Road, Meridian, MS 39307.
