J. Leigh Caldwell, age 84 of 301 School St., Oconto, died April 15, 1990 at the Oconto Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 24, 1905 in Oconto, the son of John J. Caldwell and Hattie Leigh. He married Reggie Hansen at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Marinette on Aug. 25, 1925.

Leigh was the assistant manager for the Marinette Knitting Mill in Oconto until 1936. He was an Oconto County reporter for the Green Bay Press Gazette for 10 years, retiring in 1962. He was a member of First American Lutheran Church, a lifetime member of the Kiwanis club, and he served as Kiwanis secretary for 8 years. He also served on the Board of Directors for Woodside Lutheran Home in Green Bay for 8 years.

Survivors include his wife, Reggie, a daughter, Mrs. Beverly (Robert) Campbell of Oconto, 2 sisters, Geraldine McDowell, of Oconto, Doris and Dr. Ernest Theis, of St. Germain, Wis., 6 grandchildren, Robben and Jody Campbell, of Green Bay, Curtis and Amy Jo Campbell of Oconto, Amy and Michael Loehliem of Oconto, 7 great-grandchildren, Robert, Andy, John and Jackie Campbell all of Green Bay, Jamie Campbell, of Oconto, Tyler and Loren Loehlein, of Oconto. He was preceded in death by an infant son, a brother Ralph, and his parents.

Friends may call at the Gallagher Funeral Home in Oconto from 4 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Funeral home. Rev Warren Wooden will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the First American Lutheran Church.
