He also had been a clerk working for the city of Springfield prior to his long tenure as Greene County Clerk which began with his election to Greene County Clerk in November of 1946.
Ted served his country in the U.S. Army during World War I. He was also a sub-scout for the New York Yankees under the direction of Tom Greenwade, Yankee scout for the Midwest district.
On 22 Nov 1938 Ted married Wilda C. Gilmore of Ash Grove, MO.
NOTE FROM THE SPONSOR OF THIS PAGE: I worked for Ted Willis in 1973 as a Deputy Clerk. One day while sitting at his desk during a weekly report session, Ted began reminiscing about his baseball days which led to a story more recent in time while he was County Clerk. He told me that when Mickey Owen came back to Greene County after his retirement from Major League Baseball, Mickey called on him (Ted) to get advice about running for public office. Ted told him that he (Mickey) should run for Sheriff on the Democratic ticket. This was advice coming from a Republican officeholder. But Ted and Mickey were good friends from way back as they were both professional Baseball players. Mickey took his advice and was elected.
