Joseph was the son of James Leo and Pearl A. Ross Callery. He married Phyllis Jean Dawson on Nov. 15, 1960, in Peoria. She died April 27, 1984, in Peoria.

Surviving is one son, Raymond Callery of Springfield, Ill.; one daughter, Christine (Rolland) Daum of Edelstein; one granddaughter, Genny (Shane) Vestal of Cuba, Ill.; one grandson, Ryan Daum of Creve Coeur, Ill.; one brother, Gene (Roberta) Callery of Dunlap, Ill.; and two sisters, Kathleen (Ted) Kulaga of Iowa and Mary (Frank) Witting of Florida.

His parents and two sisters, Dorothy McMullen and Bernice Gronewald, preceded him in death.

Joseph was in the United States Army from 1943 through 1946 and served in the infantry during World War II.

He worked at Pabst Brewery, and then he became a bus driver for Seven Oaks Child Development Center in Princeville. Joseph was also a farmer in the Edelstein area. He was a member of the Chillicothe VFW and the Peoria County Farm Bureau.

He was a former member of the St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, Princeville, and he attended St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Peoria Heights.

Burial will be in St. Mary of the Woods Cemetery, Princeville.
