MELVIN H. LOGAN, JR.

Melvin H. Logan, Jr., 73, died January 11, 1990 in Ft. Myers, Florida.

Born March 2, 1916, Mr. Logan graduated from Emporium High School in 1935, was a member of the C.C.H.S. Alumnus. On June 27, 1936 in Olean, New York he married the former Pauline M. Bortree of Emporium. They celebrated their 50 years of marriage in 1986.

Mr. Logan started a business in Emporium carrying coal and eventually opened a moving company known as Emporium Transfer Co., eventually expanding to North American Van Lines. He moved to the Washington, DC area in 1954 and went to work for the Federal Government retiring from the National Security Agency in 1975. He received several service awards and was highly recognized for suggestions and implementing changes and improvements to logistics, the area in which he specialized in. In 1945, Mr. Logan was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps.

In 1988 Mr. Logan and his wife moved to Ft. Myers, Florida.

He was very active in the Christian Ministry from 1949 until his recent death, teaching Sunday School classes and preaching from Pulpits as a lay minister in the Free Methodist and Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches.

Mr. Logan was preceded in death by one son, Lawrence Lee who passed away January 7, 1986.

Surviving are his wife, Pauline M. (Bortree) Logan of Ft. Myers, Florida; two sons, John Alan of Silver Springs, Maryland and Melvin H., III of Laurel, Maryland; three daughters, Jane Hurst of Germantown, Maryland, Linda Ridgely of Silver Springs, Maryland and Pat Downs of Clarksburg, Maryland; three sisters, Monica Swartwood of Emporium, PA, Veronica Flick of Erie, PA and Jeanne Eckl of St. Marys, PA; two grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Hines-Rinaldi, Silver Springs, Maryland. He was layed to rest January 16 in Union Cemetery, Burtonsville, Maryland.
