RICHARD F. KIRBY, ESQ, 88, of Cumberland, RI and Delray Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving and devoted family on Friday, May 3, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth (Hogan) Kirby. They were happily married for 58 years.

Born in Woonsocket, RI, he was the son of the late John and Melora (Farley) Kirby. Dick graduated from LaSalle Academy, Class of 1942. For his many athletic accomplishments and his civic commitments, in November of 2012, he was inducted into the LaSalle Academy Hall of Fame. A graduate of Trinity College, Hartford, CT, 1947, and Boston College Law School, 1953. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He was a member of the original Naval Underwater Demolition Team, today referred to as the Navy Seals.

A practicing attorney for over 50 years, he was a founding partner of the Law firm of Macktaz, Keefer, and Kirby, Woonsocket, RI. He was a member of the RI Bar Association serving in various positions and also served as a Probate judge in the town of Cumberland for 14 years. He also was involved in many professional and civic organizations throughout his lifetime. Dick summered in Narragansett, RI for many years and was a former member of the Dunes Club, Point Judith Country Club, and Kirkbrae Country Club, Lincoln, RI. His greatest joy and accomplishment in life was his seven children. Whether it was playing golf, going to the beach, or playing cards, he loved spending time with his children and his grandchildren.

Besides his wife, Liz, he is survived by his children, Mary K. Szczoczarz, Catherine K. Struhar, Jean F. Kirby, Richard E. Kirby, Esq., Edward T. Kirby, William F. Kirby, and Francis J. Kirby, thirteen grandchildren, and one great granddaughter, as well as many- many friends and relatives who will miss him dearly. He was the brother of the late John E. Kirby and Aileen K. Dunn.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 in Saint Joseph Church, Cumberland. Burial with military honors, followed in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
