NORTH FALMOUTH - Robert Caron Jr. of North Falmouth, died at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, on March 16, 2008. He was 28.
He was the son of Robert Caron and Charlotte Caron, both of North Falmouth.
Born in Falmouth Hospital, on June 26, 1979, Mr. Caron was raised in North Falmouth and attended Falmouth High School. He worked side by side with his father as a carpenter in the family business, Robert Caron Builders, for most of his life.
Mr. Caron's adventurous spirit and love of nature made him feel at home walking a forest trail or surfing at a local beach. He was an avid outdoorsman and often talked about the time he spent alone in the woods, identifying various forms of animal and plant life.
Last year, Mr. Caron hiked both Maine's Hundred Mile Wilderness and the Mahoosuc Notch, known as "the toughest mile" of the Appalachian Trail, two of his proudest accomplishments. He was fascinated by New England's turbulent weather and was an enthusiastic storm watcher, with a particular interest in hurricanes. He was known by family and friends to predict rainstorms before they started.
Mr. Caron leaves four sisters, Kathy Burnell, Kerrie Anderson, Debra Plourde, and Michelle Caron; and two brothers, Michael Caron and Jeffrey Caron.
Visiting hours are Monday, March 24, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, at 584 W. Falmouth Highway. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, at 481 Quaker Road, at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, March 25. Burial will follow at the North Falmouth Cemetery, Old Main Road, North Falmouth.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory should be made to Baxter State Park in Maine, the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, or The 300 Committee of Falmouth.
