Pearl (Ridenour) McQueen

Pearl (Ridenour) McQueen, eldest daughter of Thomas H. and Barbara J. Ridenour(sic), was born June 20, 1888, in Maries County, Mo., and died October 20, 1974, at the Mitchell County Community Hospital, Beloit, Ks., at the age of 86 years and 4 months.

On March 2, 1903, Pearl was united in marriage with Walter C. Ridenour at maries County, Mo. To this union were born six girls -- Opal, Vurble, Esther, Ellar, Frances, and Barbara, and two boys -- Walter and Orval.

Walter died on June 19, 1939, and on Nov. 30, 1952, Pearl married Robert L. McQueen at belle, Mo. Pearl and Grandpa Bob, as he was affectionately called by Pearl's children, made their home in Belle, until the time of his death in May, 1968. A short time later, Pearl returned to the Beloit community to be near her children and friends.

Pearl's vocation in life was coming to the aid of the ill, caring for the elderly, and numerous new babies. She cooked at the Asherville Grade School for several years at the beginning of the hot lunch program. She loved flowers and the out-of-doors. She was well known for her culinary arts and her "green thumb." She was a member of the Beloit United Methodist Church.

On Jan. 3, 1973, whe entered the Long Term Care Unit of the Mitchell County Community Hospital as the first resident.

Pearl was preceded in death by her son, Orval, and her two sisters, Gertrude Sherman and Augusta Wofford.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her seven surviving children, Mrs. Opal Brott, Hutchinson, Ks.; Mrs. Loris (Vurble) Underhill, Beloit; Mrs. Charles (Esther) Stackhouse, Grants Pass, Ore.; Mrs. Walter (Ellar) Sallaers, Kuna, Ida.; Mrs. Keith (Frances) Davis, Newton, Ka.; Walter C. Ridenour, Fountain, Colo.; and Mrs. W.J. (Barbara) Powell, Beloit; four stepsons and their wives and families, Orval McQueen, Belle, Mo.; Wilford McQueen, Owensville, Mo.; Raymond McQueen, Midland, Mich.; and Ernie of St. Louis, Mo.; 26 grandchildren, 84 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Rev. Harold Holland conducted funeral services on Tues. morning, Oct. 22, 1974 at McDonald's Chapel. Music was furnished by a duet of Mrs. Kenneth Tolbert and Mrs. Ron Walz and organist Mrs. Maurice McDonald. Casket bearers were Vernon Adams, Bill Burnette, Roy Eldringhoff, Duane File, Dr. L.F. Holle and Vernon Hughes. Caring for the flowers were Mrs. Duane File and Mrs. L.F. Holle.
Interment was made in the Glasco Cemetery, Glasco, Kansas.
