C.D. Thomason, 89, of Russellville, left this earthly life on Sunday, February 19, 2017 to spend eternity with our Lord in heaven. C.D. was an auto mechanic and owner of the Texaco Station in Russellville for many years and drove a school bus in Hamblen County for over 20 years. He also played stand-up bass, including several years with The Hamblen County Boys. He also loved gardening and canning home-grown vegetables. He was known throughout the community for his delicious tomatoes. C.D. met the love of his life, June Purkey, on Armistice Day in 1949, and they married in 1954. They had been married 58 years and 3 days when she died in 2012. He was 36 days away from his 90th birthday when he passed.

C.D. was the eldest son of the late Briscoe and Lucy Karr Thomason. He was also preceded in death by his wife June; sister, Marietta Thomason; brother, J.B. “Rabbit” Thomason; and all of June's siblings and their spouses.

He is survived by his two daughters, Kaye Thomason of Atlanta and Carole Thomason of Johnson City, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family received friends Wednesday, February 22nd from 1:00 – 3:00pm in the East Chapel of Allen Funeral Home prior to the service held at 3:00pm, with Reverend Blaine Kelly officiating. He was laid to rest beside his wife in Bethesda Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Larry Baker, Johnny Cagle, Joe Dean, Harold Royston, Edwin Thompson and J.C. Waddell. Tom Shipley was an honorary pallbearer.

Allen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Little-known fact about C.D.: his real middle name was Dedmon, but when he was a kid, he changed it to David because "Dedmon" sounded too much like "dead man". Follow the Family Links to trace C.D.'s lineage to the Dedmon surname (through his Grandfather Thomason's mother).
