NEW HOLLAND -- Offie David "Jim" Rankin, 82, of New Holland died Sunday, May 22, 2005, at 5:38 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in New Holland, with the Rev. Julie Azbell officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be in Richmond Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Rankin retired from Eaton Corporation, where he was a wheel brader operator. He previously worked at Stetson China.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was born Dec. 24, 1922, in Lincoln to Offie A. and Hattie Pittenger Rankin. He was raised by his father and stepmother, Esther Ritchhart Rankin, from the age of 6 months. He married Jessie W. Sheley on Lincoln on March 25, 1951.

He is survived by his wife, of New Holland; two sons, Gary (and Cherie) Rankin of Emden and Howard (and Patricia) Rankin of Mount Pulaski; three daughters, Joyce Rankin of St. Louis, Mo., Donna (and Vern) Schoof of Lincoln and Connie Rankin of New Holland; 14 grandchildren, Amanda (and Jason) Bradburn, Luke Behme, Justin (and Michelle) Rankin, Brittney Rankin, Kim Rankin, David Rankin, Jessie Rankin, Joel Rankin, Tina Mayer, Monica Mayer, Chelsey Rankin, Mary Rankin, Erin Rankin, Pam (and Craig) Childers; four great-grandchildren, Brandon Rankin, Krissa Bradburn, Alaina Bradburn and Venessa Childers; four brothers, Elmer (Mardelle) Rankin of Petersburg, Richard (Janell) Rankin of Rocheport, Mo., Harold (and Carolyn) Rankin of Greenview and Robert (Bonnie) Rankin of New Holland; and four sisters, Margaret Rankin of Lincoln, Esther (and Harry) Boward of Middletown, Mary (and Bernard) Hildebrandt of Lincoln and Frances (and Don) Banister of Springfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, William Rankin; two brothers, Kenneth and John Rankin; and one sister, Patricia Rankin.

He was a member of the New Holland United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 715 in New Holland, and the Moose Lodge and VFW in Lincoln.

Memorials may be made to the family, New Holland Fire and Rescue, or American Legion Post 715.
