AGE: 80 BEACHWOOD
Michael A. Besante, 80, of Beachwood died March 10, 2009 at Community Medical Center in Toms River. Born in Long Branch, he had lived many years in Jersey City before moving to Beachwood in 1991. Mr. Besante had served on the Jersey City Police Department for 30 years and retired as detective in 1989. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Oriskany, Air Craft Carrier #34 during the Korean War. He was a member of the Retired Police and Fireman's Association of Hudson County.
He is predeceased by his brother, John L. Besante and by his brother-in-law, Monsignor Joseph Loreti. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, two sons and their wives, and four grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be Thursday, March 12, 2009, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, Jersey City. Burial will follow to Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City. In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael's name to: Holy Rosary Church, 344 Sixth Street, Jersey City, NJ 07304 or St. John's Soup Kitchen, 22 Mulberry Street, Newark NJ 07102, would be appreciated.
