Mrs. George Alexander
The news of the death of Mrs. George Alexander cast a dark shadow over hearts of many people in the Spring Valley last Monday. She had resided in Spring Valley for 37 years, and had a large circle of friends who will mourn her death. She returned from a visit with relatives in Colorado, but just 10 days ago. She was suddenly stricken with brain trouble.
Charlotte Baldwin was born in Momshire, South Wales. She was one of eight children born to Moses and Elizabeth Baldwin, who with their family came to the United States about 1872. They settled first in Bloomington, but after several years stay they moved to Streator, Ill. Here she grew to womanhood and on the 23rd of December 1882, she was united in marriage to George Alexander.
The couple continued to live in the place of their marriage until 1885 when they moved to Spring Valley. Here they have resided watching the city grow from a cluster of houses about NO1 mine until it has reached the present fine population.
Mrs. Alexander had been visiting relatives in Boulder, Colorado and California, ever since last October, returning home only ten days ago. She was suddenly stricken with hemorrhage of the brain, Sunday night, passing away on Monday the 27th of March at the age of 56 years 5 months and 4 days.
She leaves to mourn her husband and four children and lost one Elizabeth some 17 years ago. Those remaining are Roy of Canton, Ohio, George E. of Pueblo, Colorado, Eva of Bay City, Michigan and adopted daughter Josephine who still is at home on 120 East Iowa Street. She also leaves to mourn four brothers and 3 sisters, all residing here in the United States. Seven grandchildren likewise had been given her,
The funeral services were to be held at the family residence. Thursday afternoon Rev. C.L. Mills Officiated. Internment was in the Miller Cemetery.
