"On August 25, 1836, he purchased eighty acres of land in Clark County, Arkansas, and later bought an additional eighty acres. He was a practicing attorney, a major member of the Somerville Land Company and served in the Fourth and Fifth General Assemblies of Arkansas."

In the 1860 census of Clark County, Arkansas, Thomas and Jemima are living in the household of his son-in-law and daughter, Elias and Tennessee. The 1870 census enumerates Thomas and Jemima in the household of Elias and Tennessee, Mary Dawdy, Elias' mother and Sarah Dowdy, Elias' sister.
