Dr. Caroline K. Allen, 70, died suddenly Sunday, Apr. 6 at her residence in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Born in Pawling, N.Y. on Apr. 7, 1904 she was the daughter of the late Howard and Ruth (Howard) Allen. She resided in Pawling from 1948-1958. A graduate of Vassar College in 1926, she attended Harvard the following year. She received her Masters Degree in 1929 from the Washington University, St. Louis, Mo and her PhD from Washington University in 1932. Dr. Allen devoted her life to the study of Botany and was awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship, 1973-1974. Dr Allen retired last May from New York Botanical Garden. She was also a member of the Quaker Hill Historical Society. Dr. Allen is survived by a brother, Howard N. Allen, Jr. of North Miami, Florida, and a niece Mrs. Kathryn Allen Rebuzzi of Syracuse, N.Y.
