David Clevenger was a son of Alexander Clevenger and Elizabeth "Betsy" Free.

David, age 4, was listed in the 1850 census report along with siblings: John ["Mack"] (14), Isaac (12), Alex [Jr.] (11), William (9), James (7) and Doctor (2).

In 1870, David was recorded as age 22, unmarried, still living at home. In 1880, David was listed as a 36-year-old widower living in Jefferson County with his 3 children: Mary, 7; Daniel 5; and William, 4. So, apparently, David married in the 1870s and lost his wife in the same decade.

David's wife was probably a Hall, but his marriage cannot be verified. He was the father of Daniel Clevenger, who married Rosa Welch. Daniel and Rosa were the parents of Probe Clevenger. Probe and wife Susie (Rhinehart) were the parents, grandparent (and so on) of many of the Carson Springs Clevengers.

David is presumed to be buried in the Free-Clevenger Cemetery but verification is lacking.
