John Sutphen was the son of Guisbert Sutphen(1745-1836)& his wife Goeretie Herchy Sutphen(1745-1788),daughter of Guisbert Sutphen & his wife Ariaentje Van Pelt.

John married Sarah Phoenix(1753-1823), daughter of John Phoenix & his wife Anne Woertman of Bedminister, Somerset County, New Jersey

John & Sarah's Children were:
1. Ann Mary Sutphen(1771-1860)
2. William Phoenix Sutphen(1772-1862)married Nancy
3. Gilbert Sutphen(1774-1825)married
4. Elizabeth Sutphen(1776-1870)married Mr. Dixon
5. Gertrude Sutphen(1782-1876)
6. John Phoenix Sutphen(1784-1863)married Orrilla Wright
7. Polly Sutphen(1786-1875)married Mr Henry
8. Jane Sutphen(1788-1882)
9. Margarita Sutphen(1791-1866)married Cornelius Lane
10. Matthew L Sutphen(1793-1827)

John was a enlisted man during the Revolutionary War Veteran serving under Duryea's Company 1st Battalion @ Somerset, New Jersey.

After the war he was a Tavern Owner in 1780, 1783-1788. He sold out & moved to Cherry Valley, Otsego County, NY in May 1788.

His Will Recorded & dated 2/21/1810 & probated 3/12/1810 @ Otsego County Surrogate Court, pages 271-273, also pages 269-271. Seal published & declared witnesses: John Person, Peter Low & Joseph Brown. Executor was Sarah, his wife.
