Melvin J. Zimmer, 61, of Gagetown died Saturday afternoon, Jan. 19, 2002, at his home from injuries sustained in a farm accident.
He was born March 20, 1940, in Marine City to the late Edward and Mabel (Zweng) Zimmer.
On Sept. 3, 1982, he was united in marriage to Judith Hands in Lakeville.
Melvin lived in the Romeo-Armada area most of his life, where he grew up on a farm. He retired from General Motors in 1993 after more than 35 years of service. He and his wife moved to Grant Township in 1993 to pursue his love of farming.
Surviving are his wife, Judy; his son, Philip Zimmer and his wife, Kelly, of Washington; his daughter, Marcy Zimmer of Warren; two brothers, Jerry Zimmer and his wife, Linda, and Thomas Zimmer; four sisters, Shirley Dobberowski and her husband, Carl, Rita Zupan, Bernadette Collins and her husband, Jim, and Mary Lou Allam and her husband, Mike.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Jeanne Hulette.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation. A memorial service for immediate family and friends will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at Community Wesleyan Church in Elkton. The Rev. Fr. John Weis will officiate with burial in Clinton Grove Cemetery in Mount Clemens.
Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
Arrangements were handled by Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton.
