John F. Hangartner lived in Anaheim from 1973 to 1991 with his wife Janel and his three children, Debbie, Diane, and John W. He was a football coach in the Anaheim Union High School district at Magnolia High and John F. Kennedy High school, where some of his teams were ranked number one in the state. John had to retire in 1986 from coaching because of a heart condition. He went to work for his wife Janel in her tax preparation business. On his way home one evening he had a heart attack on the 605 freeway and his car went over the side, eventually being hit by a train. Before the train hit the car, he was probably already dead. A lot of former football players from Kennedy High School showed up as well as most of the neighborhood on the street where he lived. John also played football at Arizona State University. He lived in Glendale, California, where he met Janel. He is buried in a companion crypt under Janel who died in 2004.
