Michael Wayne (Mike) Wilson, a resident of County Road 59, Abbeville, died late Sunday morning, June 21, 2009, at his home. He was 53.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, in the New Freedom Church in Webb, with Pastor Larry Adams, Reverend Johnny Harvell and Reverend Thomas D. Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in the Pilgrim's Rest Free Will Baptist Cemetery, near Abbeville. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. today in the New Freedom Church sanctuary in Webb.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society , 2346 West Main Street, Dothan, AL. 36301.
Mr. Wilson was born and reared in the Wills Crossroads community of Henry County, son of the late Woodrow (Woody) Wilson and Maxine Cavanaugh Wilson. He lived in the Abbeville area most of his lifetime. Mr. Wilson was a member of the New Freedom Church in Webb. He was self-employed as a carpenter until he became medically disabled.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Vicki Athey Wilson, Abbeville; a daughter, Taffeny Wilson Ward and husband, Johnny Ward, Dothan; a son, Brandon Wilson and wife, Nicki Wilson, Albany, GA; a step-daughter, De'Anna Crawford Simmons and husband, Stacey Simmons, Milton, Fla.; a step-son, Tim Crawford and wife, Kisha Crawford, Ashford; three grandchildren, Tyler Davis, Parker Wilson and Laura Grace Wilson; a step-grandson, Matthew Simmons; four brothers, Steve Wilson and wife, Martha Sue Wilson, Edwin Community; Eddie Wilson and wife, Diane Wilson, Abbeville; Troy Wilson and wife, Tammy Wilson, Abbeville; Chuck Wilson and wife, Angela Wilson, Ball Ground, GA; an aunt, Gladys Wilson; several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be his four brothers.
