Margaret H. Ter Maat, 90, of 516 North 13th Street, Oostburg went home to her Lord on Friday evening, May 27, 2005, surrounded by four generations of her loving family.

Margaret was born on Feb. 12, 1915, in the Town of Holland, the daughter of the late Garrett and Johanna (Damkot) Brusse. Margaret graduated from Oostburg High School in 1932. On May 10, 1935, Margaret married the late John E. Ter Maat in the Town of Holland. John preceded Margaret in death on March 18, 1996. Margaret was a devoted homemaker and helped her husband operate their farm in the Town of Holland. She also worked shortly in the canning factory, drove a school bus, and did painting and wallpapering for other people.

Margaret was a longtime and faithful member of the First Reformed Church in Oostburg where she participated in the Mission Society and Young at Heart. She and her husband were active in the Lay Witness Mission while members at Hingham Reformed Church. She was also a member of the Merry Matron Homemaker Club. Margaret enjoyed sewing, gardening, crocheting, knitting, cooking, growing violets and word puzzles. Margaret’s true legacy was the devotion that she had to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She cherished the time she spent raising her family. Whether she was known as Grandma, Grandma Duke, or Grandma Peaches, she had a special place in the hearts of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a servant heart and strove to make others feel “special”. Margaret was progressive in her thinking, always eager to learn something new and will be remembered for her wit.

She is survived by three daughters, Harriet (Lloyd) Debbink of Cedar Grove, Helen (Gordon) Veldboom of Oostburg, and Lucinda “Cindy” (Steven) Heinen of Sheboygan; two sons, Rev. Richard (Helen) Ter Maat of Grand Rapids, Mich., and David (Mary) Ter Maat of Oostburg; 19 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Margaret is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Esther Brusse of Pine Haven Christian Home, and Ann Clark of Dallas, Texas; one brother-in-law, Alvah Ter Maat of Sunny Ridge Nursing Home, many nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, John; and two brothers, Henry and Delmar (Arlene) Brusse.
