Here lies intered (sic) the body of
Captain John Topping Hudson
who died in this Town on the
18th day of July, 1808 in the 29th
year of his age.
He was the eldest son of John
Hudson and Esther his wife.
Originally from Long-Island but
for many years resident in the
City of Schenectadyand State of
New York
He had lately arrived from a
voyage at sea after an absence
of nearly nine years from this
Country, was then on his way from
Boston to Schenectady to visit
his Mother and Brotherthe only
surviving members of his family.
He was highly accomplished as a
Scholar, a Merchant Seaman and
Navigatorand endeared to his
relatives and friends by the
tenderest ties of love and
affection.

Providence, R.I. July 1880
